The ICE are intent on providing the premier fan and player experience in the CHL. The organization will be a driving force in the community and innovate in all aspects of their operation to create a meaningful connection with the community, fans, players and staff.
The new crest and logo for the Ice franchise represents the legendary Sasquatch that has roamed the British Columbia and the Kootenay mountain range for hundreds of years. The folklore surrounding this creature claims that he is up to 9 feet tall and ferocious. The Kootenay Ice adopted this powerful mascot to represent competition and fearless play.
The design process started with research and piles of rough pencil sketch concepts that were reviewed and approved providing the foundation for digital development. Once we had locked in our approach, we then brought together several illustrators–including a talented Russian illustrator–to execute digital illustrations.
As we neared a final draft, we wanted the crest to include the team name–but didn’t want to detract from the focus on the eyes and teeth. The jagged graphic forms that we were using to represent the fur offered a perfect solution for embedding the letters: “I-C-E” along the neck.
