The amount of social media activity that will surrounds the World Cup shattered all former records of major events across every social channel. Reports had surfaced that said more Tweets had been written in anticipation of the Cup than the entire previous 2010 tournament combined. As a sports branding firm with a particular interest in social media currents, we did some research and were able to create a visual documentation of all 32 participating nation's official -- and in some cases, "unofficial" -- hashtags. To be clear, not one of the following hashtags was written in the Fanbrandz studio -- but all the visual interpretations were. In some cases, like US, Holland and Italy, teams have their own Twitter account with a marketed hashtag in their bio blurb, which made things easy. In other cases, teams didn't have an "official" hangtag, per se. This required a few extra back-passes to find the most popular fan-created hashtags, and in one case, the nation's government banned its citizens from using Twitter altogether. At the end of the research, we found 32 hashtags that set Twitter on fire over the 32 days. Our designs for each visual hashtag were inspired by team jerseys and their respective nations' flags. Enjoy the visual guide, and be sure to grab your team's visual hashtag and share it up!
