The 2016 Heritage Classic program is rooted in 1972 hockey aesthetics, the year that both the Winnipeg Jets and the Edmonton Oilers first came into existence. This style includes bold striping, vintage aviation, and the teams’ classic 1970s letterforms.

The NHL Heritage Classic returned with its fourth edition to the beautiful city of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The area surrounding host venue Investors Group Field in Winnipeg offered rich inspiration for the event theme art including the Forks outdoor plaza, local wildlife, native Haida patterns and artwork as well as vintage travel posters for the area. After exploring several creative avenues, the theme we decided to focus in on was vintage aviation combined with 70s hockey aesthetic, a perfect fit for the host team.
